The Citadel's Tau Iota Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, is proud to name

Eileen Hilera Shields
of
Academic Magnet High School

as the 2008 South Carolina Spanish Teacher of the Year. On November 13 an awards ceremony was held at The Citadel to recognize Mrs. Shields with a plaque and $1000:

Gloria Maria Ham of Spring Valley High School in Columbia and Jessica Martinez-Johnson of Lone Oak Elementary in Spartanburg were also recognized with award plaques courtesy of

All three finalists and their guests (one guest per finalist) received complimentary lodging the evening of November 13 and breakfast on November 14 courtesy of the
